FDA Takes Action on the Hazardous Substance Refill Business Model, Train Entrepreneurs to Raise Awareness of the BCG Model

FDA organized the training program aiming to train the hazardous substance entrepreneurs on the criteria, methods and conditions in selling the hazardous substance Category 1 at the refill station service. The training will provide how to operate a refill business correctly as well as to promote the health product business which is eco-friendly and sustainably made regarding the BCG Economy Model.

Dr. Narong Aphikulvanich, Secretary-General of Food and Drug Administration revealed that the refill business model has gained widely interest from public and private sectors since the model plays a part in an environmental conservation through the reusable container. This includes hazardous substances used in households and for the public health matters such as the products for dishwashing, liquid laundry and floor cleaning. As the regulatory organization for the hazardous substances utilized in households, FDA has implemented the guidelines for the sale of hazardous substances through refill stations which must be in accordance with FDA’s criteria, methods and conditions for the acquisition of hazardous substance Category 1. This refill business is expected to become effective within this year.

As mentioned above, the training program is scheduled for June 21, 2024 at the TK Palace Hotel & Convention Bangkok, aiming to enlighten the entrepreneurs and the FDA officers on the criteria, methods, and conditions of selling hazardous substance Category 1 at the refill station service. For the FDA officers working at the regional offices can attend the training via VDO Conference (Zoom meeting). Such training will provide entrepreneurs and FDA officers with guidance on how to operate the refill business correctly. Approximately 300 participants attended the training, including entrepreneurs from the private sector, individuals interested in the refill business, and FDA employees from both central and regional offices.

The Secretary-General of FDA added that the promoting eco-friendly and sustainable health products business in line with the BCG Economy Model, will raise awareness among public and private sectors about resource efficiency by applying the refill concept which encourages using items more than once. The FDA aims to promote this policy to maximize resource utilization.
