The Thai Food and Drug Administration (Thai FDA) is enhancing the standards for herbal product manufacturing facilities by inviting public feedback on the draft Ministry of Public Health Notification titled “Criteria, Methods, and Conditions for Manufacturing Herbal Products (Second Amendment)”, which aims to support small-scale entrepreneurs in operating sustainably with quality and safety.
Dr. Withid Sariddeechaikool, Deputy Secretary-General of the Thai FDA, revealed that the Thai FDA recognizes the importance of businesses of all sizes involved in herbal product manufacturing. On 18 December 2024, the agency opened a public consultation on the draft regulation, which focuses on empowering small-scale manufacturers of low-risk herbal products—such as topical products—to conduct business effectively without compromising product safety and quality. The regulation lays the foundation for safe and high-quality manufacturing practices while promoting the sustainable operation of small-scale businesses.
Dr. Withid concluded by emphasizing that this consultation on the secondary legislation regarding “Criteria, Methods, and Conditions for Manufacturing Herbal Products (Second Amendment)” will help advance the Thai herbal industry with quality growth. The regulation ensures consumer safety and establishes proper controls at every step of the production process.
