Thai FDA and OPDC Discuss Regulations and Criteria for the Permission of Importation of Health Products for the Filming in the Kingdom of Thailand to Make it Faster, Easier and with Less Barrier.

          Thai FDA had a discussion with OPDC in response to the Prime Ministry’s policy to promote business, adjust the guidelines for importing health products for the filming of foreign films in Thailand, making it faster, easier and with less barrier, and to be approved within 24 hours.

           Dr. Narong Aphikulvanich, Secretary-General of the Food and Drug Administration revealed that the Thai FDA responded to the Prime Minister’s policy which gives the importance on facilitating the filming of foreign films in Thailand. The discussion was held with the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC) led by Mrs. Areephan Charoensuk, the Deputy Secretary-General of OPDC, on the rules and regulations which might be the limitations or obstructions for the importation of health products to be used for filming in Thailand. Modifications have been made to those rules and regulations, with the aim of making it faster, easier, and with less barrier. The Thai FDA has implemented a measure, allowing e-submission of film permit, on the condition that all documents which include product label information and pictures, safety data sheet, application for film permit and power of attorney are duly submitted. There are also data integration with the Thai Customs Department and the Department of Tourism, and the transfer of information to the concerned parties for follow-up, with the Thai FDA ready to consider the permit within 24 hours. Moreover, real-time notification of consideration result for the importation of food, cosmetics, hazardous substances products used in the household, as well as medical devices, is provided in order to facilitate those who wish to import such products for filming purpose in Thailand.            The Secretary-General also stated that the Thai FDA aims to drive the organization by supporting business operations in terms of convenience and speed, and to collaborate with all parties concerned to promote Thailand as a filming location of foreign films, with the effort to propel with the Thai government’s policies on soft power and economic stimulus, while at the same time giving precedence to safety and quality of health products for the sustainable consumer protection.
