The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has collaborated with 10 agencies to sign an MOU aimed at integrating efforts to handle advertising misconduct and enforce laws effectively for the utmost benefit of consumers.
On 3rd December 2024, Dr. Surachok Tangwiwat, Secretary-General of the FDA revealed that the FDA has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, Ministry of Public Health, Department of Disease Control, Department of Health Service Support, Department of Health, Department of Internal Trade, the Consumer Protection Board, and the Royal Thai Police. The primary goals of this collaboration are:
1. To enhance consumer protection mechanisms regarding information on advertising of products and services or health-related products that may be deceptive or unlawful, and ensure effective action by each agency.
2. To integrate consumer protection efforts related to unlawful advertising of products and services or any actions that may exploit consumers.
3. To integrate and strengthen the enforcement of consumer protection laws.
Today's signing marks an important step as the FDA, the NBTC, and the ten collaborating agencies come together to tackle issues related to advertising of health products, goods, and services, aiming to enhance consumer rights protection in advertising and ensure sustainable, effective outcomes.
