Thai FDA and Institute of Nutrition, Mahidol University Partner to Advance “Healthier School” Initiative, Paving the Way for a Healthier Future for Thai Youth

The Food and Drug Administration (Thai FDA), as the main secretariat of the National Food Committee, has partnered with the Institute of Nutrition, Mahidol University to bolster the Healthier School Policy. This collaboration is focused on promoting “Healthier Choice” and fostering supportive food environments at school to encourage healthy eating habits among Thai children and youth.

On 20 October 2025, at the FDA meeting room floor 10, OSSC building, Ms. Supattra Boonserm, Secretary-General of the FDA, presided over an award and certificate ceremony for ten private schools and provincial public health offices participating in the “Healthier School” Project under the Healthier School Policy. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of school meals by reducing the content of sugar, fat, and salt, while increasing access to nutritious food through collaboration among the public sector, academia, and educational institutions.Secretary-General emphasized that cultivating health literacy from childhood is crucial for preventing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and promoting long-term well-being in Thai society. The initiative brings together the Thai FDA, Institute of Nutrition, Mahidol University, the Thai Health Promotion Foundation, and the Ministry of Education,The goal is to create model schools that use the “Healthier Choice” symbol as a guideline for food selection and sales, making it easier for children to choose for healthier optionsThe Thai FDA remains committed to promoting product reformulation by reducing sugar, fat, and salt, and expanding the application of the 'Healthier Choice' label       to a wider range of products. This effort aims to ensure that consumers of all ages have access to healthier food options throughout their lives.

The event included a knowledge-sharing session showcasing lessons from model schools to advance national policy recommendations to support sustainable improvements in children’s nutrition.
