The Thai FDA warmly welcomed the PMDA Asia Office and held discussions to exchange information on the development of drug and medical device regulatory systems.
Dr. KITAHARA Jun, Head of the Japanese Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) Asia Office, paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Surachoke Tangwiwat, Secretary-General of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the executive team to discuss and exchange information on the development of drug and medical device regulatory systems. Dr. Surachoke Tangwiwat, the Secretary-General of the Thai FDA, stated that the FDA was very pleased to welcome the representatives from PMDA this year, which marks the 20th anniversary of PMDA. This milestone is a celebration of progress with the goal of inspiring better lives for all, reflecting the commitment to global health and safety. The focus is on expanding international cooperation and regulatory science as a global leader in healthcare innovation.
The FDA Secretary-General further stated that the Thai FDA highly values its long-standing cooperation with PMDA, especially in the areas of drugs and medical devices. Various initiatives, such as the Asia Training Center (ATC), highlight Japan's dedication to developing personnel to ensure the quality, safety, and efficacy of medical products. This commitment is well recognized. Today’s meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss the needs for personnel training and further promote cooperation between the Thai FDA and PMDA. The knowledge gained will be used to enhance the operations and workforce development in evaluating drug and medical device products, ensuring that the public has access to high-quality, effective, safe, and internationally recognized medicines and devices. It will also enable Thailand to timely access innovative medical devices and avoid obsolescence, addressing emerging health challenges and providing the greatest benefit to the people.
