The Food and Drug Administration (Thai FDA) held a strategic discussion with six leading e-commerce platforms—Lazada, Shopee, Grab, LINE MAN, LINE SHOPPING, and TikTok Shop—to enhance digital collaboration aimed at strengthening the screening system to prevent the sale of illegal health products online and promoting local and healthier choice products to the global market.
Dr. Supattra Boonserm, Secretary-General of the Thai FDA, stated that the Thai FDA is taking a proactive approach to both consumer protection and business promotion. The cooperation focuses on two key areas: 1. Enhancing API Integration and AI Screening: The Thai FDA will connect its product database with e-commerce platforms through an Application Programming Interface (API) and utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) for automatic screening of unregistered or illegal health products before they are listed online. This system will significantly improve real-time surveillance and blocking efficiency, ensuring consumer protection through a fast and systematic process. 2. Promoting Local and Healthier Choice Products: The collaboration also aims to facilitate market access for community-based health products under the concept of “Local to Global”. In addition, it supports the sale of Healthier Choice products, recognized for having appropriate levels of sugar, fat, and sodium according to “less sweet, less fat, less salty” criteria, which help reduce risk factors for non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

Dr. Supattra emphasized that this partnership aligns with the Ministry of Public Health’s policy to enhance the health economy and community health product value, consistent with the FDA’s vision to ensure product safety and compliance with laws while empowering entrepreneurs to meet higher standards and strengthen sustainable market competitiveness.

This initiative marks an integration of technology and regulation between digital platforms and the FDA—paving the way for Thailand to become a regional hub for high-quality, safe, and trusted health products in the global.
