The Food and Drug Administration (Thai FDA) is supporting the expansion of the Future Food business by strengthening cooperation with academic institutions to establish additional assessment units in various areas. This initiative facilitates food entrepreneurs and enhances competitiveness at the international level.
Mr. Lertchai Lertvut, Deputy Secretary-General of the Thai FDA, revealed that Future Food is currently one of Thailand’s key strategies for developing the food industry. The initiative aims to create domestic market opportunities, upgrade technology and infrastructure, add value to food products, and enhance competitiveness. As the regulatory authority, the Thai FDA recognizes the necessity of assessing the safety and efficacy of active ingredients and food products. This includes assessments of nutrition and health claims, novel food safety evaluations, foods not classified as novel food, as well as biosafety assessments in food.
To facilitate entrepreneurs, The FDA collaborates with government agencies, universities, and associations to set up recognized external assessment units, offering timely evaluations to ensure food product development meets international standards. In 2025, Chulalongkorn University’s Academic Service Center was added, bringing the total to 6 recognized units supporting the Future Food initiative
1. Bureau of Quality and Safety of Food, Department of Medical Sciences
2. National Food Institute, Ministry of Industry
3. National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA)
4. Thailand Risk Assessment Center (TRAC), Foundation for the Promotion of Nutrition under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn
5. Thailand Center for Nutrition and Health Claim Assessment, Foundation for Nutrition Development
6. Academic Service Center, Chulalongkorn University
Entrepreneurs can check the list of accredited assessment units and their scopes of evaluation on the FDA’s official website at www.fda.moph.go.th, under the “Food Division” section. This ensures clarity and confidence in the development of food raw materials and products.
