Thai FDA emphasizes the development of Thai herbal industry by organizing a venue to listen to the entrepreneurs’ opinions in all dimensions, with the aim to improve the regulations and regulatory guidelines to be proper for the secure and sustainable development of Thai herbal product industry while at the same time retaining the consumer safety.
On February 16, 2024, a workshop on the assessment of the impact from law enforcement on herbal product was organized at Grand Richmond Stylist Convention Hotel and presided by Dr. Narong Aphikulvanich, Secretary-General of the Food and Drug Administration. The Secretary-General revealed that the Thai FDA is ready to become a co-creator to collaborate in the development of herbal industry according to the government policy. Since herbal products are crucial to the development of the grassroots economy of the nation, and are also considered as alternative healthcare, the Thai FDA therefore organized a venue to hear the suggestions and solutions from all parties concerned, e.g. Herbal Products Association, Thai Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, Thai Pharmacies Association, Health Food and Supplements Association, The Federation of Thai Industries – Herbal Industry Club, herbal product licensees, and community enterprises. This can lead to the proper development of regulations and the development of Thai herbal industry, as well as to ensure the regulation of licensed herbal products to be safe and efficient for the consumers.
The Secretary-General also stated that the Thai FDA has collaborated with local sectors in supporting entrepreneurs and strengthening consumer protection by developing the potentials of pre-marketing and post-marketing officers of the herbal products launch to be ready for change and be able to effectively apply the knowledge with enterpreneurs and consumers. This operation of the Thai FDA is one of the attempts to enhance the national competitiveness and to promote the secure and sustainable growth of herbal product industrial sector while at the same time retaining the consumer safety.
