Thai FDA Welcomes Delegation from Lao PDR to Exchange Views on Health Product Regulatory Systems Advancing Health Economic Cooperation Across the Mekong Region

The Food and Drug Administration (Thai FDA) welcomed a delegation from Lao PDR during their visit to Thailand to exchange knowledge on health product regulation and trade cooperation between the two countries, with a view to strengthening economic ties across the Mekong region.

Ms. Supattra Boonserm, Secretary-General of the Thai Food and Drug Administration, welcomed Dr. Souksomkhuan Chanthamath, Director General of the Food and Drug Department, Ministry of Health of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, together with the Lao delegation. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss cooperation on health product regulatory systems, including standards, regulatory oversight, and approaches to facilitating trade in health products between Thailand and Lao PDR.

The discussion reflected the longstanding friendship and continued cooperation between the public health authorities of Thailand and Lao PDR. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening health product regulatory systems to ensure efficiency, respond to global changes, and support consumer protection alongside the development of the region’s health economy.

Secretary-General concluded that this exchange would not only enhance consumer protection in both countries, but also mark another important step in supporting entrepreneurs and promoting stronger economic connectivity between Thailand and Lao PDR for sustainable and mutual growth.
