Wiang Kaeo Mulberry Silk Community Enterprise

The Wiang Kaeo Mulberry Silk Community Enterprise began by processing raw silk and exploring ways to add value to production. Water left over from the traditional pressure-boiling process used to remove sericin from silk threads was repurposed as a raw material for developing cosmetic products. Public health agencies, universities, and the Queen Sirikit Sericulture Center collaborated on research to determine suitable extraction conditions and to study the properties of silk sericin for use in product formulations.
