The Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA), in collaboration with the Provincial Public Health Offices, has developed management and risk management processes for the Situation Awareness Team (SAT) on health product hazards. This includes an emphasis on how to respond to health product hazards to enhance safety monitoring of health products for strong, effective, and sustainable outcomes.
Dr. Narong Aphikulvanich, Secretary-General of the Food and Drug Administration, chaired the opening of the risk management workshop for the Situation Awareness Team on health product hazards, which was held on 7-8 March 2024 at the Grand Richmond Hotel, Nonthaburi Province. Dr. Narong revealed that the current information on the risk of health products use has prompted the Situation Awareness Team (SAT) to be active in tracking, monitoring, and detecting signs of hazards or risks, assessing the situation and the risks that may arise, reporting such risks to concerned officials in a timely manner, and being ready to always respond. Such operation would require collaborations from a network of Provincial Public Health Offices across the country, facilitating the comprehensive and efficient transmission of information.
The Thai FDA places importance on personnel development for those working in the Situation Awareness Team, so it has organized the meeting to exchange knowledge on risk management. The meeting also focused on unusual events detection, and crucial health product hazards inspection and follow-up. Information should also be shared to enhance the efficiency of health product regulation, emphasizing accuracy, speed, and currentness.
The Secretary-General reiterated that this attempt to promote the potential of personnel working in the Situation Awareness Team on health product hazards is an important point in the development of safety monitoring system, and in strengthening of the health product warning system. This rendered the consumer protection system effective, assuring people’s safety and quality of life. Ultimately, Thailand will be a sustainable country.
