Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin, Minister of Public Health, presided over the "5 Decades of the FDA" event. He shared with the media that 11 December 2024, marks the 50th anniversary of the FDA's establishment. The FDA has served as the leading agency in consumer health protection and the promotion of health product businesses. Over the past five decades, the FDA has played an important role in laying the groundwork for consumer protection in Thailand by creating laws to regulate health products, such as the Food Act and Drug Act, and expanding its role to oversee a wide variety of health products. Continuous development has been carried out to strengthen the regulatory framework while actively monitoring and enforcing laws strictly.
Looking ahead, the FDA will continue to prioritize improvements to its systems, ensuring high-quality standards to enhance consumer safety. At the same time, it will support and promote businesses across all levels while developing standards and fostering innovation in health products to strengthen Thailand's health system, ensure sustainability, and drive the economy through innovative health products.
Dr. Surachoke Tangwiwat, Secretary-General of the FDA, further emphasized that the agency remains steadfast in protecting public health, building trust in health product consumption, fostering entrepreneurship, and advancing consumer protection systems in Thailand. This will be achieved through transparent, modern, and efficient operations while focusing on innovative approaches to address emerging challenges under the theme: "50 Years of Trust, Creating Innovations for Tomorrow".
