Thai FDA and Department of Health Meet with USABC to Strengthen Confidence in Food and Agricultural Product Safety

The Food and Drug Administration (Thai FDA) and the Department of Health held discussions with the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) to exchange views on health product regulation, particularly food safety and health product standards, with the aim of ensuring consumer safety while supporting the growth of the food and health product industries.

On 26 August 2026, the Ministry of Public Health assigned the Food and Drug Administration (Thai FDA), led by Dr.Pichet Puedkuntod, Deputy Secretary-General of the Thai FDA, together with representatives from relevant agencies, including the Department of Health and Global Health Division, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Health, to welcome a delegation from the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) during its visit to Thailand as part of a dedicated Food and Agriculture Industry Mission. The discussions aimed to strengthen cooperation and exchange views on regulatory approaches related to food and agricultural products, the control of household chemicals, as well as the approval and authorization of veterinary medicines and vaccines.

During the meeting, the Thai FDA shared information on Thailand’s approach to food regulation, which is based on risk analysis and international standards. The regulatory framework seeks to strike a balance between consumer protection, strengthening the capacity of business operators, and facilitating trade, while promoting an efficient regulatory system aligned with international standards.

Dr.Pichet Puedkuntod, concluded that the discussion with the US-ASEAN Business Council provided an important opportunity to exchange views and foster mutual understanding between the public and private sectors.
