Dr. Surachoke Tangwiwat, Secretary-General of the Thai FDA, led a delegation to Beijing and Kunming, Yunnan Province, from August 24 to 29, 2025. The mission fostered collaboration and knowledge exchange with key Chinese agencies, including the China Certification & Inspection Group, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the State Administration for Market Regulation, and the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China. Discussions focused on strengthening inspection and control measures across production and export processes for fruits and vegetables in China. Currently, vegetables and fruits from China are Thailand's primary import source. Data show that Thailand imports over 1 million tons of these products from China each year. This presents a good opportunity to foster cooperation to improve standards for pesticide residues, quality, and consumer safety. Such efforts will be highly beneficial for developing future guidelines on the regulation of imported vegetables and fruits.

As 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the People's Republic of China, t the initiative is expected to strengthen regulatory standards for imported vegetables and fruits to align with international standards, while also contributing to long-term economic growth and trade relations as well as consumer protection in both countries
