A working group for inspection of the control process of Category 4 narcotic drugs in the closed system industry visited the licensed factories to inspect the use of Acetic Anhydride (a Category 4 narcotic drug) and to ensure it is not misused.
On 20 and 21 November 2024, VDC Major Thanakrit Jitareerat, the Vice Minister for Public Health, led a team of working group members, including Dr.Withid Sariddeechaikool, Deputy Secretary-General of the Food and Drug Administration, Police General Suchart Thirasawat, the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), local health officers, and representatives from relevant agencies, to inspect factories using Acetic Anhydride (a Category 4 narcotic drug) in the industrial sector at two locations including a factory in Lopburi province and the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate in Rayong province.
VDC Major Thanakrit Jitareerat revealed that, after the inspection, the companies were found to be complying with regulations. However, additional recommendations were made for the companies to maintain records of employees, especially foreign workers, and to enhance safety measures around the chemical storage tanks, such as raising fence heights, strengthening pipe joints, and increasing vigilance for potential environmental pollution from chemical leaks. The Food and Drug Administration was also advised to tighten controls over the import and transport of Acetic Anhydride to these companies. Agencies such as the ONCB or police should ensure that vehicles for transporting Acetic Anhydride reach authorized storage locations without accidents or loss. During the transfer of Acetic Anhydride into storage tanks, staff should be assigned to supervise the process until it is completed.
Dr.Withid added that this mission is part of a strict policy to control narcotics, as well as measures to prevent the illegal diversion and leakage of narcotic substances used in the industrial sector, from upstream to downstream, to build public confidence.
