Minister Phatthana Oversees Secure Transfer of 44 Tonnes of Seized Narcotics for Incineration under Strict Security Measures

The Minister officially released the convoy transporting seized narcotics from 55,876 cases, with a total weight of 44 tonnes, from the Ministry of Public Health to the Industrial Waste Management Center, under a tightly controlled security system along the entire route. The narcotics are scheduled for incineration tomorrow as part of the mission “Never Stop to Burn — Confident, No Resale, Eliminating Social Harm.”

The ceremony took place today (18 November 2025) at the One-Stop Service Center of the Thai Food and Drug Administration, Ministry of Public Health, Nonthaburi Province. Mr. Phatthana Phromphat chaired the ceremony marking the release of the convoy for the 60th destruction of seized narcotics.

The event was attended by Pol. Col. Patak Kwanna, Deputy Commander of the Consumer Protection Police Division, Royal Thai Police, who serves as Chair of the Transport Committee for narcotics destruction. Also present were Dr. Somrerk Chungsaman, Permanent Secretary for Public Health; Supattra Boonserm, Secretary-General of the Thai FDA; and representatives from partner agencies, including the Royal Thai Police, Royal Thai Air Force, Royal Thai Navy, Royal Thai Army, the Office of the Narcotics Control Board, the Office of the Attorney General, the Customs Department, the Government Public Relations Department, and the Department of Industrial Works.

 Mr. Phatthana stated that drug suppression is a national agenda of the Government, with relevant agencies working in an integrated manner to intensify the prevention and resolution of drug-related problems. One of the key missions in drug suppression is the destruction of seized narcotics to ensure that no illicit substances remain in storage, thereby preventing their recirculation and subsequent harm to society.

For this operation, the seized narcotics approved for transport and destruction originated from 55,876 cases, with a gross packaged weight of 43,643 kg 203 g and a net narcotics weight of 34,655 kg 680 g 416 mg. The largest portion consisted of methamphetamine tablets (over 24,095 kilograms), followed by crystal methamphetamine (ice) (over 7,208 kilograms), ketamine (over 1,642 kilograms), sibutramine (over 554 kilograms), heroin (over 478 kilograms), chloral hydrate (over 306 kilograms), opium (over 160 kilograms), and other substances.

“The transport of seized narcotics for destruction in this operation has been carried out under stringent security measures along the entire route from the Ministry of Public Health to the Bang Pu Industrial Waste Management Center in Samut Prakan Province,” Mr. Phatthana said. “The narcotics will be verified and incinerated using high-temperature furnace systems that do not cause environmental impacts, on 19 November.”
