Thai FDA, Mahidol University’s Institute of Nutrition, and Six Major Retailers Join Forces to Promote Access to “Healthier Choice” Products and Reduce NCD Risks

The Thai Food and Drug Administration, the Institute of Nutrition, Mahidol University, and six leading retail companies in Thailand have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly publicize and promote access to food products bearing the “Healthier Choice” nutrition logo. The collaboration aims to reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and sustainably enhance public health among the Thai population.

Ms. Supattra Boonserm, Secretary-General of the ThaiFDA, announced that the Thai FDA, in collaboration with the Institute of Nutrition, Mahidol University, and six retail companies :CP Axtra Public Company Limited, Big C Supercenter Public Company Limited, Central Food Retail Company Limited, The Mall Group Company Limited, AEON (Thailand) Company Limited, and Saha Lawson Company Limited have jointly signed an MoU on public communication and the promotion of access to food products certified with the “Healthier Choice” nutrition symbol.

The MoU signing ceremony marked a formal declaration of cooperation among public agencies, the private sector, and academic institutions to advance policies that support and promote food products bearing the “Healthier Choice” nutrition symbol Picture11.png. The initiative seeks to enable consumers to access quality, safe, and health-promoting foods, thereby helping to reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases. Activities will be implemented through both onsite and online channels, alongside support for the development of food products that meet the “Healthier Choice” nutrition criteria, with the goal of increasing the availability of healthier food options in the marketplace.

In closing, the Secretary-General stated that this collaboration reflects the collective strength of the public sector, private sector, and academic institutions in steering Thai society toward sustainable healthy eating habits, ensuring that people nationwide have greater access to appropriate, safe, and healthier food choices.
