The Thai Food and Drug Administration (Thai FDA), has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with leading e-marketplace platforms in Thailand—Lazada, Shopee, LINE MAN, and Grab—under the campaign “FDA Connect Marketplace.” The initiative aims to enhance consumer safety in online purchasing while expanding market opportunities for Thai community-based health products through national and international e-commerce platforms.

The signing ceremony was held on 17 November 2025 at the OSSC Building, 10th Floor, Thai Food and Drug Administration. Mr. Phatthana Phromphat, Minister of Public Health presided over the ceremony and stated that the event reflects the Ministry’s commitment to advancing key public health policies in collaboration with e-commerce platforms, focusing on two main pillars:
1. Preventing illegal advertising and the unauthorized sale of health products on digital platforms, thereby safeguarding public health in all dimensions; and
2. Promoting the health economy by expanding market access for Thai community-based health products manufactured by local producers.
This collaboration underscores the government’s determination to protect consumers in the evolving digital landscape by leveraging efficient technologies to address unlawful products, fostering a trustworthy and safe online shopping environment. At the same time, it supports the expansion of Thai community health products onto global e-marketplace platforms under the concept “From Local to Global.”
Dr. Somrerk Chungsaman, Permanent Secretary for Public Health, emphasized the significance of the initiative, noting that the MOUs signed between the Ministry of Public Health, through the Thai FDA, and the four leading e-marketplace platforms mark an important milestone in strengthening consumer protection mechanisms in the digital era through public–private collaboration. The cooperation includes the joint development of systems to prevent and reduce the online advertising and sale of illegal health products. This will enhance public confidence that health products sold on online platforms are properly authorized, safe, and reliable. Simultaneously, the initiative supports Thai community-based health product entrepreneurs by providing accessible, efficient sales channels and expanding opportunities for Thai products to contribute to sustainable national economic growth.
Ms. Supattra Boonserm, Secretary-General of the Thai Food and Drug Administration, further explained that, in addition to expanding sales channels for community health products via e-marketplace platforms, the Thai FDA has developed a centralized website compiling information on community health products nationwide. The system enables data linkage with e-marketplace platforms to facilitate product categorization and improve searchability, as well as to coordinate promotional campaigns. To enhance consumer safety, the Thai FDA, in collaboration with digital platforms, has established a system for exchanging health product authorization data through Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Shared data include product names, Thai FDA registration numbers, and authorization status, which are used to prevent unauthorized products from being listed for sale.

Furthermore, the Thai FDA provides blacklists of illegal products and unlawful advertising claims to digital platforms, enabling the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems capable of detecting, blocking, and removing illegal products and advertisements more effectively. These measures are designed to achieve the objectives of the cooperation fully.
