5. International Cooperation

The HPVC cooperates with drug regulatory agencies abroad and other agencies in developing the health product vigilance system in Thailand in many ways, for instance, by exchanging information and joining several projects with many different agencies such as the World Health Organization. For instance, the HPVC has participated in the Smart Safety Surveillance (3S) project as invited by the World Health Organization. The project’s objectives are to strengthen pharmacovigilance systems and practices in selected low- and middle-income countries; and to help identify, assess and manage risks associated with new medicines and vaccines. Thailand was assigned to initiate active surveillance of tafenoquine. Subsequently, the HPVC prepared and issued the “Guidelines on Monitoring the Safety Profile of Tafenoquine for Healthcare Professionals in Thailand”, to serve as guidance for healthcare professionals on the monitoring of any adverse events resulting from the use of tafenoquine, as well as the reporting of adverse events to the HPVC.
